Ortiz Elementary We have made some changes this year to our gift giving program for Ortiz. We will still be providing over 650 children a visit with Santa and a great gift wrapped just for them, however, you don’t have to do the shopping this year. Dr. Rachel Smith, has collaborated with Kid’s Village to purchase age and gender appropriate gifts at a wholesale price. We already have all the gifts now, we just need to wrap them and get your donation to help pay for them. Please include your Ortiz donation with your dues or you can send it separately to P.O. Box 420 Abilene, Texas 79604. We need $3000! (that’s 30 families giving $100) H.A.T. (Help A Teacher) If you want to make a difference in the lives of children, consider volunteering to help a teacher at Ortiz Elementary. The schedule is flexible, you pick the day, time and how often. The jobs are simple, the reward enormous. This is a wonderful opportunity to have a positive influence on children. Call Susan Wray if you are interested or need more information. Walking Challenge The AMA Alliance is encouraging alliance members to make a difference in their health by issuing another walking challenge. The project challenges teams of 5 members to walk 2000 miles over a six month period. This number symbolizes the walk from Chicago, home of AMA Alliance, to Hollywood, home of the Motion Picture Association, to carry our message of getting smoking out of youth-rated films. You do not have to walk together as a team. Each team member keeps track of her own miles and reports them monthly. Clip on a pedometer and make a difference in your health and support Screen Out one step at a time. Contact Chris Faehnle cfaehnle@sbcglobal.net to sign up. S.H.I.P. (School Help in Progress) At this time of year we ask for donations to our SHIP fund to benefit the children at Ortiz Elementary. Ortiz is the one of the lowest socioeconomic schools in our district and the children there have many needs. With your monetary help we can continue to meet as many of those needs as possible. Legislative Update Don’t forget to vote on Tuesday November 6th. Go to www.texmed.org for legislative updates. Taylor Jones Haskell Medical Society Alliance Scholarship The Scholarship Committee will accept scholarship applications from January 2012 until April 1, 2012. The application form may be printed from the alliance website www.taylorjoneshaskellalliance.org, or the Community Foundation website www.cfabilene.org. Any questions, contact Jody DePriest <depriest1@suddenlink.net Free Immunizations THE FIRST THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH AT THE MEDICAL CARE MISSION 4 - 7 PM During each clinic we dispense an average of 70 immunizations.
